Is this China rental listing safe?

Eight questions, one minute, nothing stored. You get a risk score and what to do next.

1. Can you get the exact address, down to the building and unit number?

2. Will the agent or landlord do a live video call that starts outside, at the street and building number?

3. Is the rent in line with similar apartments in the same area?

4. Are you being asked to pay before you can see it live or sign a contract?

5. Would you pay an account in the landlord's or agency's name?

6. Do you know whether you're dealing with the owner, the owner's agent or a sublessor?

7. Are the photos clearly of this unit (not stock or from another listing)?

8. Is there a written contract you can read before or when you pay?

This checker looks for common warning signs. It can't prove a listing is genuine or a scam. Read the 7 warning signs and the lease checklist.

Questions

Is the scam checker free?

Yes. It runs in your browser and doesn't store your answers.

Does a low score mean the listing is safe?

No. It means none of the common warning signs showed up in your answers. Still confirm the address, the unit and who you're paying before you send money.

What should I do with a high score?

Don't pay anything yet. Ask for a live video from the street, an account in the landlord's or agency's name and a written contract, or have someone independent visit.
